Branding with Consistency
Imagine you’re closing a deal, and the client came to you because of a Web site, business card, print advertisement, TV commercial, Power Point presentation, etc. You're beginning to show the client the marketing collateral pieces that you made because the corporate office hasn’t sent you the newest stuff or because you think the stuff you have looked funny. Well, unless you’re one heck of a salesperson, you’ve just lost the sale.
Here’s what’s happened in the client’s mind. The client is thinking, “I want to buy a product or service I can rely on and trust.” If everyone within your company is presenting the same information but it has a different look, then you are presenting muddled and unfocused messages. No matter what you say or do, the client will always think, “Am I dealing with a legitimate company or someone who’s good with desktop publishing and faking it?”
That’s why every single piece of communication must have a consistent look. In other words, you should be able to place your business card next to your brochure, next to your Web site, next to your Power Point presentation and they all look like they're from the same source. Too often companies are not concerned with the details or there are rogue employees who think their one-page information sheet looks better. Everything your company puts out – and we mean everything – must fit the company’s brand image.
Does this mean your e-mail has to have a similar format? …We mean everything that goes out!
