What's cookin'?
After a rough start last year, Acousticadia’s 2006 directors wanted to ensure this year’s event would be a success. Determined to generate some positive publicity, they turned to 20 Hats for guidance.
Held in June at Arcadia Lake, Acousticadia is an acoustic music festival sponsored by the Edmond Arts and Humanities Council. To raise awareness about the event, the directors decided to hold a chefs bake-off to create a signature dessert for Acousticadia.
“Our goal was not to have an over-the-top, money-making event,” said Mark McWhinney, sponsorship chair. “Our goal was to get positive press in the public’s eye. Based on the results, no dollar amount can be placed on it -- it is priceless.”
To promote the bake-off, 20 Hats created a press release, media alert, and backgrounders about the participating chefs, restaurants and music festival. KWTV News channel 9 featured a week-long series about the bake-off on its 4 p.m. newscast. In addition, three newspapers ran a total of five articles on the event.
In the end, the bake-off attracted 52 attendants and raised $290. The future of Acousticadia looks bright since AT&T agreed to be a sponsor. Other sponsors will include Edmond Electric, the Edmond Convention and Visitor’s bureau, and Nextel of Edmond.
“I believe that the work of 20 Hats on the bake-off is going to continue generating positive results for months to come,” said Patton. “20 Hats took our idea and ran with it. Our ideas for the event were more than achieved thanks to the creative thinking of 20 Hats.”
