The word of the year is PODCAST
The term 'podcast' was declared Word of the Year by the New Oxford American Dictionary in early December. It didn’t take long for marketers and CEOs (and us at 20 Hats) to start asking themselves whether they should add podcasting to their marketing tool belts.
Podcasts are digital recordings of radio broadcasts or similar programs made available on the Internet for download to a personal audio player like an iPod.
The recordings are easy to create. Anyone with a microphone, computer, software and an Internet connection can produce one.
Of course, press releases are also easy to produce. But that doesn’t mean everyone should be writing them or that every story idea conceived is actually newsworthy.
So who should use podcasting as a marketing tool?
Ask yourself two questions to determine if podcasting is right for you:
1. Is your target audience already podcast listeners?
Not necessarily. A recent survey indicated that about 75 percent of podcast listeners are male; although the percentage of women listening to podcasts is increasing weekly.
2. Do you have something valuable to say that people would want to download and listen to?
Listeners aren’t looking for a commercial so you better have something of interest to say. A good example – and a helpful tool for anyone managing people – is the free podcast offered at www.manager-tools.com.
Plan for success
Your success during a crisis depends on how you respond, and having an effective crisis communications plan makes this process much easier. Regardless of the field in which you work, you must expect and prepare for any crises that could arise.
On Feb. 22, the 20 Hats Marketing Institute will present Planning for a Crisis, a seminar on the art of creating an effective crisis plan. You will learn to identify and rank crises that could affect your organization. After leaving our seminar, you will have the skills and confidence needed to face a crisis head-on.
Join us Wednesday, Feb. 22 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. to learn how to design a crisis plan that meets your organization’s specific needs. The seminar will be held at 4100 Perimeter Center in Oklahoma City. Cost to attend is $125 per person. To register for Planning for a Crisis, please click here.
