Objectives:

  • To write all text for the electronic publication, keeping the following
    considerations in mind:
    • users can enter a site and move between pages as they choose, so every page should be independent
    • the word count for the online version of a given topic should be about half the word count used when writing for print
    • simple sentence structure and the “News you can use” style will help users quickly find pertinent information
    • Phase 2 wanted the text to be professional with a casual tone

Tactics:

  • outlining the structure of the site, goals for the site and content ideas
  • Writing and editing of all content for the web developer's Web site at
    www.phase2online.com.
  • interviewing employees and clients to gain information for the site

Evaluation:

  • after the launch of Phase 2’s new Web site, the site received over 1,000 hits per day
  • the number of unique visitors, visitors identified by their IP address, domain
    name or cookie, increased from 72,262 in 2001 to 83,360 in 2002
